I have to agree with you there. Cleaning up after them is a daily thing and now they seem to be doing hundreds, instead of a handful, of hits.
Desperation and wild schemes to get money often counter reasonable actions.
I am hoping that the authors of b2evolution will add a check-box method for choosing referrer hits to delete. That way, you check them off and go to a confirmation page and uncheck, if needed, before you hit the delete.
Great site and useful news here, BTW. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the comment :)
I used to delete every hit manually, but I found that if you scroll down to the "top referrers" section, you can delete and blacklist all hits from a single domain in 2 clicks.

Yes, that is a good strategy. I meant when you get dozens of different URL's over the course of a day or so ;) Maybe you are luckier than we are at SE. It is cyclic though.
Too bad they are selling software to make the process of spamming our blogs easy to do. It is also too bad that the spammers don't realize that they are not accomplishing that much in our little blog worlds, other than being annoying.
Q: Does anyone know of a good, free, easy to setup PHP script that allows you to create a webpage that is comprised of RSS feeds? I have Magpie on the b2e sidebar, but I want to create a page-o-feeds as well.
I hope you don't mind me asking here, but this is a good place to ask. Thanks.

No problem. I would be interested in that too. Actually, maybe I'll try to write one when I get some spare time.

Great. Yeah, it might be popular because, regardless of all the clients, the ability to create a custom page of feeds for your site is rather cool when you can tailor them to your interests and/or your users needs. Its a fun way to manipulate and customize news and probably a wave of the future, as well.
Keep us posted if you do a script along these lines! The more customizable the better. I might be your first beta tester over at Sensibly Eclectic, Chris. ;)
01/27/05: Referrer Spam Losers
Referrer spam - a truely retarded concept. Ok, I realize that the purpose of spam is to annoy us to no end, but to waste resources (even if they are stolen) on spoofing referrer urls is clearly one of the dumber spam schemes. I don't really need to rant about spam in general. We all feel the same way. Its just that this type doesn't seem to even provide a false pretense the way the "mass email marketing" does. The links showing up in my referrer list aren't selling me anything, and in most cases lead to non-existent websites. On the other hand, I doubt anybody is pathetic enough to get a kick out of messing up our referrer lists, but then, stranger things have happened.
